Olympus announces E-600
Olympus Imaging America Inc. has today announced its new E-600 digital SLR. The Olympus E-600 is a lower-cost version of the existing E-620 model which launched in February 2009, with just a couple of changes made to reduce the cost and help provide differentiation. The only hardware difference we’re aware of is that the Olympus E600 drops the useful backlit buttons, which make it easier to see the controls at night or in low light conditions. Fraunhofer Researchers will be presenting a prototype of the “FlashBox” at the Int’l Broadcast Convention in Amsterdam (Sept. 11 to 15). The FlashBox is an onboard recorder – truly diminutive in size – that stores digital film on exchangeable disks without compression. It can record images for digital cinema and HD in a resolution of up to 2048 x 1080 pixels. It is also capable of storing Bayer raw sensor data and optionally JPEG2000 images.
